As part of my migration to this blog from the old defunct one, I decided, finally to use blogrolling.com to manage my blogroll.
I have about 300-400 blogs on my blogroll. Many of these do not update very frequently, others are basically dead (but one never knows, they may resurrect one day...).
I decided to list just fifty blogs on my sidebar. The intention was not to show any favouritism. Some of them are general blogs; some are subject specific. Some are better than others. Some are better at reflecting a particular but changing mood of mine. The blogroll was never intended to reflect any of those factors. It was simply supposed to be the most recently updated fifty. The way to get to the top of the list was to publish. And then watch yourself slip down as others update, too.
I don't use my blogroll as a reading aid - I use bloglines, which aggregates RSS feeds, so I am often reading your blog without even clicking on your site. I am not clicking on your site on the offchance you have updated.
I intended to have my blogroll as a courtesy to and advertising of the other blogs I read fairly regularly.
I noticed several weeks ago that the list was never refreshing or updating, and I made a mental note to get round to fixing it 'sometime'. And it was never a priority. I have now got round to trying to fix it only to find that blogrolling.com has been up on bricks for several weeks, and seems to have had a pretty catastrophic collapse. I don't see it being up and running at least for several weeks yet.
