I joined the queue outside the ROH shop. Jimmy came with me, mainly to act as Holder of the Camera. I was excited about meeting Jonas Kaufmann. In my excitement I had: spilt beer on the table in the pub;separately poured beer down my t-shirt and also left my hat in the pub. Jimmy caught a glimpse of Jonas as we queued and said "I've seen him, haven't?" "Yes," I said, "in La Rondine, when we went with my mother." "I don't remember," he said. I said, "There's a picture of him on the computer, me gazing at him..." "I'll sort him out," said Jimmy.
Jonas about to sign my Traviata programme and me not even looking at him.
It looks like I'm telling him off. This might have been after he had confirmed that he is singing Don Carlo next season (he had initially misunderstood me, and had explained emphatically that Rolando is doing the new production), and that he's in talks for 2011, but, at my questioning, no Wagner planned for London.
This would have been such a lovely photo if Jimmy hadn't shaken the camera. I'm sure he did it deliberately ;-)
Jimmy then thanked Jonas for the pleasure he brings to audiences.
