Link: Plácido Domingo to sing in Berlin - The Local.
Legendary opera singer Plácido Domingo is returning to Berlin this spring, Die Welt reported on Thursday. The world-renowned tenor will be back at the Berlin State Opera (Staatsoper Unter den Linden) this March to perform "Parsifal."
When he withdrew from performances in 2006, the announcement included a tantalising phrase implying it wasn't a total retiral of the role. Reportedly, he doesn't want to perform it in a static production, after the tracheitis in Los Angeles, and most current productions are static. So, presumably, Staatsoper's isn't.
A few weeks ago I found an article from about 2004 where he said he was going to retire in 2008, which seemed to explain his otherwise inexplicable lack of opera dates in Europe in 2008-09. And then bit by bit, dates are emerging.
