We have this mispalced feeling that we ought to be there. Crap,of course, we weren't good enough to qualify. End of.
If Ireland were there, Gert Cottage™ would, naturally, transfer their affections.
But in their also absence we have to make judgements.
I'm backing Poland, cos they're the only Home Nation actually involved ;-) (did you know that the single biggest wave of immigration to Britain over 2000+ years is the Polish wave since I started blogging?). Him Indoors is supporting Spain. Apparently Geoff Hurst is supporting Germany.
We were out on Brixton Hill, enjoying out Inter-course cigarette. A car stopped at the traffic lights, flying Portuguese flags. We waved, they waved and honked back. Hey, we thought, we could have fun. We could actually support every team and have a three week party.
But I still reckon the most supported team in England will be Poland
