Watched the first episode last week. The jury is still out.
Absolutely loved Life on Mars, both series and looked forward to Ashes to Ashes. I don't know 1981 London any better than 1973 Manchester ie I was there but really quite clueless. But I know my 1981 Music. Oh yes! As it opened I really thought that someone had been going through my record collection. Starting with Vienna on Vinyl, followed by a poster advertising Prince Charming. Pretty smart for July 1981 seeing that the single wasn't actually available until September... (and if I recall correctly from Swap Shop, it was actually recorded in late July). It finished with a song. Naturally I knew it - Same Old Scene - but could I remember who had actually recorded it. To my shame I had to look it up in the Guinness Book of Hit Singles - Roxy Music, whom I never liked anyway. I hope I don't spend too much time looking in Guinness, because, trust me I will know every song that is played.
I have yet to decide about the drama. Obviously the premise and format are much the same, the ultimately unexplained time-travelling whilst in a coma. So far I can't see where it's going, but Gene Hunt is back! And, frankly, even if it turns out to be a turkey, or relatively turkeyish compared to LoM, who can't forgive a TV production company for that 'bound to be iconic' shot of Gene and sidekicks motoring down the Thames, Tower Bridge in the background, with guns at the ready. One of those TV moments that one just has to stand up and applaud.
