There are arias and ensembles, and the stellar cast acquitted itself well. In the title role, Plácido Domingo was little short of miraculous, for a man approaching 70*. His presence was regal and electrifying, and his voice in a role that does not lie very high, sounded full of bloom and color. He put across his monologues powerfully.
