Lyle posts on So - why am I so anti-Catholic? (in general)
I guess what bugs me is that while there are plenty of people who use their faith and spirituality to help them try to live a better life* there are the Vocal Many who use Organised Religion as a stick with which to beat other people. My particular bugbear this past weekend was the Cormac Murphy-O'Connor deciding it was time was abortion became an Electoral Issue. A pigmy of a man, a mere shadow of the real goodness - if flawed goodness - of his predecessor Basil Hume. I am still waiting for one Catholic to answer me a very simple question "Why should men who have rejected women, rejected marriage, rejected formally any sex life, dictate to women anything about their lives, especially that relating to sexuality and fertility?" And as a supplemetary, why do people with brains pay them any attention?
I have been waiting the answers over twenty years. I do not expect a satisfactory resolution in the next twenty.
* but no different from many humanists, socialists etc who use their beliefs to help them try to live a better life
