A car pulled upside the office. A 'D'-reg (as in 2 years older than me) Morris Minor 1000. Half the people hanging around or passing-by stared at it. I do believe there are times when it's not rude to stare. And that's one of them.
They are such beautiful cars - slightly elongated, a quasi estate. That extraordinary turquoise colour and that beautiful wood frame. Also, the proper handle on the back/boot door.
Of course, they are extremely impractical, environmentally unfriendly, poorly suspended, not robust in a collision. But, aesthetically beautiful. There's a modern car on the market, styled to be reminiscent of the 1930s, but with all the advantages of modern engineering. I love them aesthetically.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone recreated the styling of a Morris Minor 1000.
According to the Morris Minor Family Tree, the model I saw was a Traveller. When we were children, Pauline had a toy Morris Minor GPO van. But, I'm wondering, why was it green? And where is it now?
Also outside work, I saw an ambassadorial (or High Commissionarial) car 1 RLB, heading for the Palace. Of which nation, I wonder.
