Last autumn we booked both Christmas Lunch and New Year's Eve dinner at the same place, The City of London, just across the road from home. Two very good menus; the New Year one was as good as anything I'd eaten in a star restaurant on that day; the Christmas one was also very nice.
There's something rather amazing about eating extremely good food in your local, bumping into friends, watching people coming and going for their beach walks, and all in glorious sunshine!
