As CD reviews go, this one doesn't pull its punches...

And then there are the arrangements - gimmicky, overblown and downright awful. Not wanting, perhaps, to take sole responsibility for this mess, Domingo enlisted the collaboration of Andrea Bocelli, Placido Jr., a couple of crossover artists and the London Symphony Orchestra.
You might want to pick up this CD if you can't find the late pope's poetry elsewhere. Otherwise, it can only be recommended to the esthetically and spiritually challenged.
With a blasting like that, I wonder what earned it as much as one-and-a-half stars. Presumably his voice!
If I was a different sort of fan - a different sort of person - or I was writing on one of those wretched record-label controlled fan-sites where free speech is not permitted, I probably wouldn't even link to this review. Or I would launch an ad hominem attack on the reviewer. But, at the risk of judging a CD by its cover, somehow this review sums up perfectly how I imagined the CD would be when I first read of it. The only thing that would tempt me to buy it would be obsessive completism, but there are still dozens of Plácido CDs I would get before this...turkey. I even have a link somewhere for an illegal download, but even if I downloaded it, I doubt I'd play it more than once, if that.
He can be so annoying - such a superb incomparable musician (as well as singer) but, as the reviewer says, those lapses of taste...
