Wednesday evening, at the Royal Opera House Stage Door, I met Rolando Villazón.
After this was taken, he was very serious and very stern, and said that we must take another photo and I had to pull a funny face...
This wasn't so very long after I had turned to my companion in the second interval and said "You know, I think I've got a crush on him...!" (No 'think' about it!). I know this may come as a surprise to some readers, because I have adored him for several years now for several different reasons, but I've never had a crush on him before.
I really really really enjoyed the performance and he was superb - I thought he was good a couple of weeks ago, but he surpassed that tonight. Hopefully I will write a review this evening, because it really was a memorable performance.
Afterwards we were chatting, and I mentioned I was going to see Plácido in Iphigénie at the weekend. And guess what Rolando said (apart from the fact that he would like to see it but can't...) - they are discussing performing it together but have yet to decide on a venue. Now I'm not the sort of woman who begs, but I did say "Please, please, please can it be this side of the Atlantic..." (although I would travel, I just don't fancy Los Angeles. Washington, yes, but not LA. But I would, if that was the venue). "London!" I suggested (because that would suit me best). And he said "London, why not!".
Afterwards, I was saying to my companion that it would be so ace if it was in London. Can you imagine, the two of them as Pylade and Oreste? It would be beyond heaven! She said it would be nearly impossible to get to tickets, so flippantly I said "I'd sleep with them, both of them, if that's what it takes." She said "In your dreams," to which, of course, I replied, "And only in my dreams..." ;-)
He also said he's hoping to do Rossini's Otello with Juan Diego Flórez. It would be excellent to see them together, and I might even endure Rossini for that, but I don't think I would dream of going quite so far for tickets.
