All pretty unconnected
- I was on the bus going up Brixton Hill yesterday and saw a group of Jamaican men standing around. I knew they were Jamaican because if the shirts, hats, flags etc. It was only when I got home that it clicked why - Bolt claims 200m gold with record
- I know where there is a secret horde of seemingly out-of-service Routemaster buses...and it's very close to my house. For heaven's sake, no one tell Boris...
- I bumped into a former First Sea Lord today, as one does (all charm and charisma, as per usual) and very nearly asked him his views on four sailing Gold Medals. The only thing that stopped me doing so was that he was with some important-looking people. I later pondered that leisure yachts and dinghies are probably not his thing
- I had my knee x-rayed today. My visit to Dulwich Hospital, officially in the back of beyond, is another hospital visited to add to my list.
- Jimmy and I sat outside a café bar on Brixton Station Road. A sound system was playing: One Love, Rudy A Message To You, My Boy Lollipop (well, maybe not that) and other top reggae sounds from past times. Just fantastic. I'm sure all the young ones hate all that stuff, but I love it,especially in the right setting
- I was not the fattest lady in the swimming pool this evening, not even the fattest white Lady. Two Ladies several (and I mean several) sizes bigger than me floated gracefully at the pool's edge, obviously intending to chill...until they found the sunspot I had been previously hogging; and there were two other women, one white and one black who were bigger than me. Not that it matters...
- I suddenly discovered this evening, a mere 34 years after I earned my 6 metres swimming certificate, why the 'front crawl' is so named. I suddenly felt as if I was crawling along the ground as I ploughed through the water. I suspect I might have been doing something wrong all these years, because it felt good. Ifelt fast.
- Dr Little-Brother informs me that cycling is good for bad knees as long as the foot-on-pedal position is correct, or, cleats if used, are properly fitted. It is better to cycle in a slightly too high a gear, enabling a bit of spin, rather than meeting resistance in too low a gear.
