This is the time of year one's thoughts turn to holidays.
I have grown to accept that I will never get my cycling holiday round Norfolk. Nor my tour on a narrow boat along the canals of England.
Instead, we want sunshine.
We want somewhere maybe 2 or 3 hours, and certainly no more than 5 hours from London. Somewhere it is possible to swim in the sea in late September or even October.
A resort which is geared up for the mature but lively. Lots of good restaurants with lots of variety. Opportunities for excursions, maybe by boat. Bars that stay open late (absolutely not looking for English bars, nor karoake places, nor Thudthud discos). Somewhere it isn't necessary to hire a car.
Perhaps a hotel, or a self-catering complex, which doesn't insist on noise pollution (thudthud music) from dawn to bedtime. Ideally, somewhere that is unsuitable for children, or maybe even adults' only (but not a Swingers' Resort!). Preferably within walking distance of a beach, and with alternative beaches available, off the beaten track.
Somewhere, in the EU, where cigarettes are 3Euro or less a packet.
