Asks the Sunday Telegraph Who has the best national anthem?
Silly question, of course, the answer is obviously South Africa. With Germany and Australia coming close runners-up.
Even the Telegraph is saying that it is about time England got its own national anthem, Jerusalem, of course. (And how very English it would be to have a national anthem named after a foreign city, like our Patron saint is Greek or Turkish or something, our national dish is Belgian, our monarchy is German, our football coach Italian).
The Telegraph calling for a dimunition of God Save the Queen is akin to a Revolutionary Call To Arms. One, two, three
Aux armes, citoyens !
Formez vos bataillons !
Marchons, marchons !
Qu'un sang impu
Abreuve nos sillons !
