Glastonbury organiser says festival is 'too middle-aged'
According to Michael Eavis, more tickets went to so-called middle-aged people this year because they were sold online and 'the middle aged' have better internet connectios that 16-18 year olds.
I suppose, because he is the organiser, he ought to know, but I don't follow this logic. Most 16-18 year olds are the offspring of 'the middle-aged' and presumably, therefore, on average, have the same internet speeds. Anyway, the internet experts keep telling us that teh internets are primarily for the youth market - based on MySpace usage or somesuch nonsense, I expect.
And finally, if middle-aged is those in their 30s and 40s, does ancient begin at 50?
There again, we had a discussion the other day about what constitutes a generation. I contended 20 years, my colleague said 25, then looked it up in his dictionary that said about 35, but my dictionary said 30.
I suppose my conclusion is - with so many things - age is a relative concept.
