I have recently made some allusions to relative impecuniousness. I haven't made a big thing about it because it's not a problem. Or at least it wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have Big Eyes and an I Want I Want I Want mentality. Not starving nor on queer street.
The root of the problem lies in me not being eligible for Statutory Sick Pay when I am off sick. I won't go into all the details of stuff because of the 'not blogging about work' rule.
I got an in principle agreement before Christmas for a cash advance on my mortgage; based on a) my salary b) my equity and c) my lack of any other debts. But on reflection, they turned me down because a couple of direct debits had been rejected, for reasons connected to 'not blogging about work'. I am not in arrears and have never been behind to the point of it being referable to a credit reference agency.
Appealing in writing against what was clearly a bad business decision was on my unending list of things to do ignore. On Tuesday I went into the bank to pay in a cheque, and the cashier said "Anything else I can help with you today Ms C?" and just jokingly I said "Not unless you can lend me some money..." Turns out I was already pre-approved for a loan; this was in my account by yesterday morning.
By the time I returned to my desk from the bank, things had really started to move on the 'not blogging about work' front, impressively so.
This evening, expecting a phone call from Jimmy, I answered the phone. It wasn't him, and it wasn't a cold call, but it was Mortgage Brokers I had dealt with in the past. So I sat down and had a chat, and I explained the part-time stuff, being turned down by my existing lender (he reckons they were mad), and the brand new loan. He reckons I'm paying far too much on my mortgage and an advisor is coming round next week.
Tomorrow I do EuroMillions and Saturday I do the Lottery (yes, I know, it's a tax-on-the-stupid, but I reckon I can afford to waste a fiver; I do that most weeks on buying coffee when I have coffee grinds and a cafetiere in my desk...)
