I bought this on the recommendation of someone who featured in my life a long time ago. (What's the betting I see him in the next few days...?) To be honest, I rarely play it. There are better Sting albums in my collection.
A collection of cleverly written and not unpleasant, but, ultimately, mediocrely forgettable songs. Best of the bunch is Everybody Laughed But You and Fields of Gold. The latter has been covered by a whole bunch of indifferent singers. It seemed rather lovely a dozen years ago. But, to my mind, it hasn't really stood the test of time.
Although I have always quite liked Sting, and The Police, I suspect I always read him/them as cold technocrats, lacking in passion, so I can never get really passionate or enthusaistic about them. Definitely more a cerebral than a visceral experience.
Overall, it is quite a pleasant album, and if this was part of a small collection, I would undoubtedly play and enjoy it often. But life is too short, and the collection too big for it to have any significance to me.
There is more Sting in my collection, but on tape.
