The Electoral Commission has a downloadable Excel spreadsheet with the election results. OF course, they warn it is interim, and now is not the time to complain if it contains errors or omissions eg having Oona King and Lorna Fitzsimons as 'elected to Parliament' and Barbara Keeley not.
I have however, done what I believe to be a fairly good data clean-up. I have 646 MPs
But what joy for amateur psephologists.
Simple arithmetic suggests 127 women. 97 are Labour, 17 Conservative, 10 LibDim, and interestingly, 3 from Northern Ireland (although 2 are 'wives'...).
The most common name among the women is Ann(7)/Anne(7). There is also an Annette, and 5 Angelas and 4 Joans. 3 Margarets and 2 Megs. 2 out of 3 Helens are in Warrington. There's a Kate, a Katy and Kitty but no Catherine.
In contrast there are 44 Davids 42 Johns, Jons and Jonathans; 24 Michaels and 21 Andrews So there are more Johns, Davids and Michaels and Andrews then there are women... All the Ann(e)s are equallrd or outnumbered as well by Mark, Peter, and Robert.
There's only one Ashok, Boris, Crispin, Elfyn, Eliot, Evan, Fabian, Fraser, Geraldine, Gisela, Glenda, Gwynfor, Kali, Kelvin, Kerry, Khalid, Lembit, Mary, Matthew, Mohammed, Parmjit, Piara, Quentin, Sadiq, Shahid and Wyvil...
UK Election Results looks an extremely rich resource for historical data.
