To be honest, I think it's a pointless article. Vaguely entertaining but, ultimately, of no consequence. When I was younger I swallowed all the crap from the women's magazines about how you can judge someone's personality by their record collection. No, I think you can usually judge someone's musical tastes by their record collection. Alternatively, their social-climbing aspirations.
I certainly don't think musical tastes tell us anything about politicians, and certainly not about actual issues. Heck, there are times when I have cringed at the musical tastes of musicians I admire. During an Election, all politicians, regardless of party or seniority are hyper aware that they must project an image, and, I am sure, most of them have calculated - or at least edited - their choices to be consistent with an image.
So many of them cite Bob Dylan. Someone once said that I was the sort of person who felt they ought to like Bob Dylan but can't quite. If it hadn't been so funny, I would have taken it as an insult.
I suspect of the lot, my tastes are closest to Tessa Jowell.
But if I were standing for election and was asked that question, I am not sure which of my various favourites I would select to project an image of my personality/values/politics.
