I don't know whether I should write this in very little type or SHOUT IT IN BOLD CAPITALS
Remember, I am a Chartered Public Finance Accountant. I have a degree, and a track record, in Politics.
I sauntered into the nearby TV viewing-food eating area at quarter to one. The place was literally packed to the hilt with accountants and what nots.
On the TV Gordon Brown was going on about borrowing, and national debt, and GDP and all that stuff.
"Oh, it's all the boring stuff!" I said.
I was looked at with a mixture of contempt, bemusement and horror.
Okay, I'm going to admit it. I think the Budget is the most boring event of the political year. I'm not even interested in how much Tobacco Products Duty is going up. Tobacco Products Duty in Poland, yes, Britain, no...
That's probably my bad, isn't it. But it's Economics - they make my head hurt. All those graphs, supply vs demand, law of diminishing returns. It's like Physics, really, isn't it. Impenetrable.
Numbers and words. I can deal with them. But not graphs and concepts.
Shudders
But I do know one thing - it was a bloody good budget for Hard Working Families, showing Prudence with a Purpose, and investing in public services.
I can trust Gordy on that one.
