Rod Stewart is a singer about whom I am entirely ambivalent. Listening to an album such as this is a really quite pleasant experience. But, no more than pleasant. The songs are...pleasant...including, for the most part, lyrics that narrate a tale.
But, bottom line at the end of the day when all's said and done, there is nothing in Rod Stewart's songs in general that specifically speak to me, whether about myself, or the human condition, or whatever. It's probably no coincidence that my favourites on this album are songs written by 'greats' and recorded, IMNSHO, by better singers than Rod - Curtis Mayfield's People get Ready, Van Morrison's Have I Told You Lately, Tom Waits' Tom Traubert's Blues (Waltzing Matilda) and Cat Stevens' The First Cut Is the Deepest.
Big shrug - no real reason to ever play this again, but no specific reason to throw it out.
The packaging is a bit on the cheap - a concertina-style inset sleeve with some fairly amateurish desktop publishing and some mediocre photos.
