Actually, I'm not entirely sure that they are all from Manchester. But being that they were all taped from Dr. Matt's CDs, in the days when he was Mr. Matt or maybe even Master Matt, I can sort of say they're all from Manchester...
I start with the Inspiral Carpets Life. It started, and I thought "Oh god, I've let myself in for an hour and a half of crap, just because I vowed to play my entire record collection by forty."
Then a few minutes later, This is How it Feels came on, and I realised that this is indeed a pleasant song. She Comes In The Fall would also make it to a theoretical compilation of Madchester Music. I thought I wasn't going to enjoy this, but I did.
Next up is Happy Mondays' Hallelujah. As I write this, I'm on the second track, Clap Your Hands, and so far it's dire. I can't see it getting much better, because there's only seven tracks, and two of those are Club Mixes of previous tracks.
Then we have James Live, Stripmine and Stutter by James: one of the great under rated acts of all time, IMO. Some fab tracks - of course, Come Home is the greatest. I wouldn't really single out any others for 'greatness' but I would say that overall, all three James albums are pleasant listening. There's a distinct James sound that pleases me.
I like James.
