Veteran leader Yasser Arafat dies
I think the obituaries, and in particular, the more considered pieces in the weekend papers will be must-reads, if only to get a potted history of the last three decades of Middle East history.
No doubt the 'Israel-right-or-(never)-wrong' brigade will be whooping it up with their simplistic ignorance of a complex situation.
But these are people who don't find it wrong that Palestinian towns are blitzed and bombarded, who shrug their shoulders at the Sharon Wall, and are happy to see hundreds of thousands of displaced people living in woefully inadequate conditions. And then blame those people for their hatred of Israel.
