There was a girl in my class at school, X. She came from a respectable family - pillars of the church, mother was a nurse; father, I think, was in the building game. She had two brothers a couple of years older and younger, and a sister five or six years younger. Comfortable, even affluent, without being filthy rich. I think she went on to be a nurse.
When we were maybe twelve or thirteen, we were chatting, at Break, or maybe just as likely in a lesson. Casually she mentioned that the previous evening her mother had called her upstairs, where her father was in the bath, and told her that it was about time she knew what men's bodies looked like. And while her father was in the bath, she learnt a lot more about men's bodies.
She then casually mentioned that her mother had bought her a sweatshirt at the weekend, and it was really nice wearing a sweatshirt round the house because of the softness of the lining.
Then the conversation moved on to something trivial.
I didn't think it was weird at the time. Unusual, but not creepy. I don't think I think it weird now. But I'm not sure.
What do you think?
