I am fairly certain that none of my readers will have any of The Gang in their record collection. Although do correct me if I'm wrong. I have two of their albums. Written recorded and published by, well, the Gang. My ex-housemate Grum and two of his mates, Neilly and Phil, with Dave as special guest star, and replacing Neilly on the second album, Radio.
The first album was recorded in V block in Cripps Hall; the second album was recorded, well, directly, below my bedroom in number 10. I even get a credit on the second album for loan of musical instruments...!
As you can imagine, albums by mates are generally nothing very good, and the lads never had any aspirations to make it big, although they did play Greenbelt in 1989. And the Misummer's Day festival at the Lakeside. And some Hall Parties. Some of the songs are dependent on being in on the in-jokes, or at least, knowing a little about Nottingham University.
My favourites are T2 Coffee Bar - people come from afar, pharmacists, scientists and engineers too, all come down for there's nothing else better to do; Chocolate Hob Nob Blues; Excuse Me Have You Got A Fridge; FN Girls; and Stairway To Tescos (a coverof Stairway to Heaven, with the immortal line "And she's buying her Kit Kat at Tescos...).
It's nice having tapes of friends from fifteen years ago. But great music. Well, you decide...!
