I have two of their albums. You can guess which two.
I bought (What's the Story) Morning Glory? because ... well, it would have been stupid not to. One of those 'must-have' albums...! An album that temporarily halted my nine-year disillusionment with pop music, precipitated by Chris de Burgh.
A truly all-time great album, even if only for a handful of tracks. But these are tracks that are guaranteed to set the room alight at any party, must-plays on your pub's jukebox. You know what I mean - those all-time great anthems for which Oasis have earned a permanent place in the Real Rock'n' Roll Hall of Fame: Don't Look Back In Anger is one of the greatest rock songs ever; Wonderwall is exceptional; and Champagne Supernova and Some Might Say are a long way from rubbish
Simple as that - everything else they have done is crap, but they deserve the title of Rock'n'Roll Great because of just a few tracks. No, just because of that drum solo in Don't Look Back In Anger...!
In contrast, Be Here Now was one of the greatest disappointments in the history of rock music. Expectations were so high and so dashed. People talked about it being too Beatles derivative. I say, if only...I suspect that I haven't played this disc more than a half a dozen times, and probably not for three or four years.
