This is not a comment on the policy on Anti-Social Behaviour Orders...
My cousin lives directly opposite the ultimate chav family. There are ten children in the family, no visible father or step-father and general unruliness prevails. Needless to say, one of the (young) teenage girls is visibly pregnant. There have been various incidents over the years - juvenile drunkenness, throwing stones at traffic on a busy A-road, criminal damage, frequent police visits - you know the usual repetitive shit that makes neighbours' lives unpleasant, if not unbearable. And the usual collection of old sofas and fridges dumped in the garden.
The 12-year old has an ASBO. Leaflets - doubled-sided glossy A4 folded in three - were distributed to the neighbours. My cousin showed me. It's impressive. It names the child and shows a picture, listing his various acts of thuggery and vandalism, with instructions to report to the police any similar behaviour.
I don't know if it will do any good, but, surely, it must be mortifying to have the whole town standing and pointing derivisely, and taking great pleasure in grassing up your every move.
It also gives great inspiration and scope for Photoshopping - we're thinking of using it as a template for a missive to be circulated around the family featuring our Aunt, the Wicked Witch...
