Typical me, I always take a lit time to rev up. I don't know why - all those poor footballing boys spend all that time in warm-up matches. Surely, as a loyal fan flying my St George's Cross on my bookshelves, I ought to have participated in the warm-up matches.
And I forget that a tournament is not really about England, but about all the countries. Fortunately, I now have a man living with me to steer me on the straight-and-narrow. For some reason we seeem to have adopted Group A as our group to watch. And, hey, what a turn up. Greece beating Portugal on Saturday - wuddya have believed it. Today, Greece drawing Spain - 2-0 Spain he predicted. Rubbish, I said, Spain are great-on-paper, crap-on-grass, always guaranteed to underperform, consistently.
And now Portugal have beaten Russia, who are definitely going home. I had a thought - wouldn't it be odd if Greece won - or even got to the semi-finals. but stanger things happened in the last World Cup. And in the year that Athens hosts the Olympics, stranger things could happen...
