There I was on the Terrace of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden chatting on the phone to my sister, when I said, "I'm just going inside..." and she mocked the clunkity-tap of my heels on the wooden floor.
Inside, I explained that I had been stood literally next to Melvyn Bragg. She was calling "Coo-ee, coo-ee," down the phone, and asked me to get his autograph. But I said, I was not going to get his autograph because that would be really childish, plus I wasn't going to stand next to him and yell down the phone, "Ooh, I'm stood next to Melvyn Bragg..."
He looks younger and better looking - lively eyes - in RL than on the telly.
