Cynthia Payne says Belle doesn't ring true.
Cynthia used to be a neighbour of mine. She was very political, was our Cyn. Stood in the 1992 election. I think that time she was 'After Dinner Speaker'. Previously, before my time, she had been the Payne and Pleasure Party. I remember standing outside Streatham station the day the election was called, with three or four other comrades handing out "Vote Labour" leaflets. We were joined by Cynthia handing out her "Vote After Dinner Speaker" leaflets. It was a bit surreal, but we got chatting. She was very pleasant.
