...which actually is my attitude when I walk into way too many pubs these days...
A hectic social whirl combined with working and too much telly imposed a moratorium on my systematic listen-blog of my entire record collection.
Back in the days it was universally acknowledged that pumping up the bass made the Adam and the Ants experience mind-blowing. I don't actually have a bass to pump up on my stereo (as opposed to the mono multi-changer that had to suffice for too many of my formative years). I now have an EQ thingy that lets me choose between Disco, Soft, Clear, Heavy, Live and Hall. Or flat. And a Superwoofer that be off, med or max.
I have spent an hour-and-a-half listening to Kings of the Wild Frontier and Prince Charming, and have concluded that both of them must figure in my top ten albums of all time. Both of them contain a multitude of tunes that are right up there as bubbling outside my top twenty songs, although not actually in there. Listening brought back so many memories. Prince Charming took me back to Christmas Day 1981 (guess how I acquired this record...?) and I repeated my feeling of surprise at how, although you think of Adam and the Ants as being double drums and heavy guitar, there is a heavy 'jazz funk' influence.
I also thought about the influence that celebrities have on young impressionable teeny boppers. Goody Two Shoes led me (temporarily) to eschew drinking and smoking; S.E.X. had a far more profound influence. Just short of fourteen, I acquired a record on which my hero sang
Let all the braggers brag
Sex
S-e-x
Virginitys no crime
Your body should be yours
And sharing it sublime
What a fabulous mantra!
