Alan (No blog, it seems) asks "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" To which I reply 'Huh!'
My period of unemployment/depression taught me a few things. I had hated my prevlous job, working as an Accountant in Social Services in an Inner London Royal Borough. I was bored stupid within six weeks. That should have been the time to go. Instead, I stayed.
Pollyanna can now look back and see it as a positive experience. Mike was one of the very best managers I have ever had. Perhaps his only failing was not to suggest earlier to me that I would be better off elsewhere. Ian turned me from a very good Excel user to an excellent Advanced user. Fiona and Matt were two of the nicest colleagues and soul mates ever, and never made the mistake of assuming that a work friendship should extend outside work.
I was seriously considering packing in accountancy. But bills have to be paid and Pollyanna has to eat, drink and smoke. Fortunately, a job came along that was quite possibly the most enjoyable I have ever had. It was, also, the lowest paid audit job, and insecure. So I moved to my current job.
