Marriage Week
I left a comment at Green Fairy, who posted the link.
The opening paragraph of the site says
For the best part of thirty years we have been conducting a vast experiment with the family, and now the results are in: the decline of the two-parent, married-couple family has resulted in poverty, ill-health, educational failure, unhappiness, anti-social behaviour, isolation and social exclusion for thousands of women, men and children.
My friend Lisa did her dissertation on single-parent families for her Social Administration degree, and discovered that there was a much higher incident in the 1880s than the 1980s.
I also want to add that the glorification of marriage as a social institution, coupled with the non-working wife, throughout most of the 20th century did nothing to prevent high incidence of domestic violence, child abuse, poverty, educational failure, mental ill-health, misery etc etc etc.
Their aims make it clear that it is a predominantly Christian organisation, but "has been building a clear interfaith and ethnically appropriate persona, drawing in key figures from a variety of faith and professional backgrounds". So really quite politically savvy.
So, remind me, exactly what has organised Christianity done for women?
