Day 3 31 December - Part 2
New Year's Eve!
Tonight, the hotel laid on a Gala Dinner. This was included in the 'All Inclusive' package, but they were also providing a Barbecue for the 'Pay as you go' people who didn't fancy forking out 35 for the Gala dinner. Throughout the day, we had seen the preparations taking shape. By seven o'clock I was ready; after meeting with Fiona the Rep we had time to spare so we adjourned to the Coffee Shop for a quick drink, before the dinner was due to start at 7.30. It was fun watching everybody scurrying/teetering around, all done up in their finery, people who, for the remainder of the holiday you'd see in pool/beach wear, or very cas in the evening.
We were shown to our table, which was next to the two chaps with whom we had been on the excursion earlier. We greeted them and sat down to watch the restaurant fill up. Row by row we were directed to go the foyer where a sumptuous banquet had been laid out. I was nearly full just on the bread (delish), 20-odd salads and soup, although I found room for fish veg and potatoes, and, later four different puddings. We also drank plenty of wine.
The entertainment was excellent. It was MC'd by a DJ from a disco called "Carwash" in Cyprus, but contained plenty of traditional Egyptian entertainment. There were dancers that shimmered in costumes of gold, a fakir , and a belly dancer. There were competitions to wrap a mummy and to walk like an Egyptian. Volunteers were called from the floor.
We saw in the New Year in the hotel disco and stayed up until half one, at which point I was entirely unable to walk straight and barely able to walk across the courtyard to our room.

Been forever since I've commented, and I apologize. Been too busy with school and such. But I came to say, it looks like I'm going to make it to Denmark next August, so are we still on for that drink in July? :) Later
