We ate Indian last night and Indonesian this lunchtime. This afternoon we went to see Mike Leigh's All or Nothing, starring Timothy Spall and Lesley Manville.
It should have been depressing, but it wasn't. I suppose it depends on what you know. For those who don't know Sarf London, or analogous areas, some of the characters could be seen as patronising stereotypes, but the Sarf London cinema I was in was laughing, because we recognised them as real people. It's rare that I find repeated use of "Fack off" to be funny, but this was.
Timothy Spall's facial (lack of) expression alone made it worth watching. However, there is a scene near the end which I found grating and unnecessary and just too sentimental.
I would definitely recommend it but you may struggle to find it: I doubt that the multinational capitalist multiplices will show it.
When we came out there were enormous queues for some of the Cremaster films, which are currently showing, along with installation art in a temporary porch to the cinema.
