A lovely day out, sightseeing in the Elham Valley, which is in the North Downs, in Folkestone and Hythe district in Kent.
Lyminge
The Parish Church of St Mary and St Ethelburga was originally founded in 633, although the modern building dates only to 965 with additions and modifications at intervals in the second millennium CE. Æthelburh or Ethelburga was daughter of King of Kent, who married a King of Northumbria.
Onwards to Elham and lunch at The Abbot's Fireside, dating from C17. Elham is famous as being the residence of both Audrey Hepburn and Anthony Eden, possibly at the same time.
A short stroll took us past a couple more pubs to St Mary's Church.
Our final stop was St Martin's Church, Acrise. Got to be honest, I'm not sure Acrise is actually a real place, but whatever it is, it's very nice. It's a pity the Church was locked, but understandable given its remote location.
