A trifling little Tweet:
brought forth this response from Ruth:
and made me ponder the correlation between voice-type and diet, or favoured food. Plácido Domingo's voice has been described as 'chocolate', Gerald Finley is a connoisseur of fine wines. I'm the sort of off-pitch mezzo or alto who falsely claims to be a vegetarian* whilst capriciously ignoring the likelihood of meat stock in my leek soup, a phenomenon also spotted in Neath.
I expect that Jonas Kaufmann eats steak for breakfast, and Dmitri Hvorostovsky regularly snacks on Beluga Caviar. I am sure we can all think of singers who, surely, feast on broken glass on toast.
Does the food cause the voice-type or the voice-type the food preference?
*I don't actually, but please don't let facts interrupt when I'm on a roll!
