Placido Domingo brings Baroque opera strongly to life in L.A.
Polishing a dusty gem
(A decently written piece is spoilt at the end by saying he added Siegfried to his rep this season. Er no. If they mean Siegmund, that was knocking on for twenty years ago!)
Excellent Singing - Handel and Rossini from Los Angeles Opera
All of the singing was excellent on this occasion. Domingo handled his coloratura with ease while giving a powerful and passionate dramatic rendition of Bajazet's last days. The last act arioso in which he addresses Asteria was monumentally moving.
Meanwhile, Hispanics for Los Angeles Opera hosted its annual Plácido Domingo Awards dinner, honouring among others, Juan Diego Flórez, who by sheer chance happened to be in town for Barber of Seville.
