I have to admit that I had not heard of Norfolk Island until today, despite me having roots there.
Despite being politically part of Australia - as a self-governing territory - it is closer to New Zealand and even closer to New Caledonia. It has its own internet suffix - .nf, its own language and it seems that it is in dispute with Australia.
Most Islanders are of Caucasian ancestry, being descendants of the Bounty mutineers (1850) as well as more recent arrivals from Australia and New Zealand. About half of the islanders can trace their roots back to Pitcairn Island. This common heritage has led to a limited number of surnames among the Islanders a limit constraining enough that the island's telephone directory lists people by nickname (such as Cane Toad, Dar Bizziebee, Kik Kik, Lettuce Leaf, Mutty, Oot, Paw Paw, Snoop, Tarzan, and Wiggy) Wikipedia
I have to say that the photos make it look absolutely gorgeous, an emerald isle set in a sapphire sea, and I would imagine it being a popular holiday destination from Oz and New Zealand*, although the Tourism site says "Norfolk Island is undoubtedly the South Pacifics best kept secret".
The history seems to focus primarily on the Bounty Mutineers and their descendants, the Pitcairners. Certainly no mention of the 1846 prison "Childs" Mutiny.
* if any Australian, New Zealander or Polynesian readers have info, I would be interested
