I was on the bus, upstairs. Some teenagers got on. About four lads and a girl. The boys all seemed very nice. the girl was loud, foul-mouthed, and I suspected, there were some problems there. She was mouthing off and squawking; one of the lads was saying, softly, gently, "Calm down, calm down," really trying to manage her, to manage the situation. when the bus reached the bus station I stood up. The lad spoke to the girl, calmly authoritatively, "Let the woman off. Come on, let the woman off...". I smiled and said thanks.
On the short journey the girl had really made me laugh. She had picked up The Sun Christmas TV guide which someone had abandoned (presumably as not being worth the paper it's written on). The girl commented "It's too early, it's not even December yet." Pause. "What day's Christmas Day?"
"It's a Sunday this year," said one of the lads.
"No what date is it?"
I turned my head away to hide my smirk.
"Are you the stupidest person on the planet?" asked one of the boys.
"I don't know what date Christmas is," insisted the girl.
Eventually they told her.
December 25th.
