From a very hot and sunny weekend in Manchester. Would you believe I took my umbrella! Mind you, my cab driver this afternoon suggested that Manchester is in fact tropical - lots of rain interspersed with hot sunshine...!
Fabulous landing into Manchester airport, from about Staffordshire northwards. A large part of me is Cheshire Girl, but even I was moved at how just beautiful Cheshire is on a hot day. And I didn't realise that there were so many lakes - and I don't just mean the swimming pools in Footballer Belt. Today's flight back was just as lovely. I have never realised how wide an area the reservoirs near Heathrow cover. Again, a view of London I don't think I have properly seen before.
I managed to see Concordes, both sadly grounded, at both Heathrow and Manchester airports. And, guess what there was I sat at Ringway this afternoon, gazing out at the runway, when, guess what, we had a fly-past of the Red Arrows! I established in chat with the plane spotters that they were expected. I don't know whether it was a WWII commemoration, or something else. Last Wednesday was the first time I have heard them since the last time I went to Southend Air Show in about 1992. But I saw them today!
Just for the record, I flew up on a Brer 145, a dinky little plane, all of 54 seats. I flew back on an Airbus 320 and had three seats to myself. BMI Regional going, BMI returning.
The purpose of the weekend was for my mother's 70th birthday celebratory lunch yesterday on the opulent Salford/Wigan borders. Ten adults and three children assembled. I think a good time was had by all.
