It started on Sunday night when I realised I had a cough. It's all my own fault, of course, I'm one of those evil lepers, a heavy smoker. In my defence though, like many smokers, I don't get colds very often. Anyway, I thought, a nice bacterial infection might zap the mystery virus that's laid me low for the past year or so.
I got home and decided to go into rant mode, the target being Jimmy, who, luckily for him, had already gone to bed. Nevertheless he managed to irritate me profoundly and I got in a bad mood. He's all into the idea of having proper meals. I decided to rebel, and have one of my very favourite meals, cheese omelette and baked beans. I should have been totally rebellious and gone the whole hog with Oven Chips, of which he disapproves.
Nevertheless, when we come back from holidays, I'm going to explain to him that I am bored shitless with eating fish and two veg. Part of the reason I became a non meat eater was my ennui with meat and two veg. In fact, when I come back from hols I'm going proper veggie, just to ensure an exciting and varied diet. Last night I rehearsed the phrase "If I never see an other prawn again in my life it will still be too soon."
Today I'm in a foul mood with my colleagues. They're doing really irritating things, like talking on the phone, and with each other, and about work, would you believe it. All you can hear is the rattle of keyboards and the click of mice.
And just to crown it all, when I walked in I was hit by a wall of heat coming from my desk. Within ten minutes I was glowing, in an elegant and ladylike way (of course) but still glowing. The Galileo thermometer on my desk read 24°, which is way too much. I called the helpdesk and less than two hours later two men came to take my temperature. They agreed I was running at 24°, whilst the rest of the building is 22°. They also agreed that 24° is way too high.
We shall see what happens. I think there is a fundamental problem in modern buildings which seems to manifest itself as ambience too hot, which makes me listless and nauseous This is often combated by movement of cold air which makes the neck and shoulders of me, and many others, stiff and sore, and induces a feeling of nausea in others.
