I've had the Walton viola and Violin Concertos for years - they're on tape after all, which seems to indicate that they date frommy student days. I must have played them a thousand times over at least fifteen years, but whilst I don't actually dislike them, I can't really get into them.
I got the Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony a couple of months ago with the BBC Music magazine, an dI have only listened to it a couple of times. I didn't like it the first time. the second time, it began to speak to me. I thought I would probably like it better if I could follow the words. Then I realised belatedly that the libretto is included - taken from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. So next listening...So far, what really stands out is the richness of Simon Keenlyside's voice.
I have a CD of songs by Vaughan Williams and other English composers. I've played it a couple of times. I'm not yet sure that I like it very much. Perhaps we will see in time.
