I may moan about London, but I will say that the view last night from the Terrace of the Royal Festival Hall is quite simply the most beautiful man-made sight I have ever seen. Forget the Pyramids, forget the Manhattan skyline. To stand on the South Bank and see the world's most beautiful (to me...) city displayed in all its electrically-lit splendour is almost a spiritual experience. To count the number of fellow gazers out on December evening showed the universality of the feeling. To hear two teenage boys exclaiming that it was spectacular and stunning was poetry.
The Shell Electric Storm is worth seeing, too, although probably not worth travelling to see. It is nice to be able to see a wind turbine from my desk is an added little bonus.
